Warnham Welsummers

Welsummers are a large, soft feathered breed originally developed in Welsum Holland.
They are renowned for their dark terracotta colour eggs and farmyard good looks.
They are a calm, friendly breed and excellent foragers and fair best with a free range lifestyle.
Alison has been breeding Welsummers for the last 4 years, selectively breeding for their utility qualities.
They are bred to the breed standard and selected for their laying vigour and dark egg colour.
Alison's flock originated from The Venerable David Garnett's dark egg laying strain and Steve Barker's show strain.
All her birds are kept free range on ground that has not been treated with chemicals and they are raised as naturally as possible, medication is kept to an absolute minimum. They are robust healthy and disease resistant birds.

Welsummers have been bred over generations specifically for their deep terracotta colour eggs.
Welsummers produce large eggs weighing over 73g. The yolks are deep golden yellow.

Warnham Welsummer Hybrid
A very active rather flighty bird, very productive layer of brown eggs.
Very attractive plumage.
Young birds are sold in small groups rather than individually.
Free range homes are preferable to gain the most from the Welsummers, they are an alert lively breed and resort to feather pecking if their natural foraging behaviour is restricted or denied.
Alison is a member of The Welsummer Club for more information about the breed please contact the club.
